Facts About Rabbit Turds

Concept & name courtesy of Jay.

How many rabbit turds did you try to eat while asking about your assignments?

Skip the intake. Touch a turd. ↓

Tiny clipboard.
Enormous administrative confidence.

Smart Berries.
Not a memory test.

No regurgitating shit to prove you’re smart. What did the teaching do to your thinking? What does it help you notice in the world?

That’s where we start. The rabbit has been informed.

What analysis means here ↓

Pick your academic concern.

A suspiciously well-organized pile of shit.

No required order. No completion score. No rabbit will be notified.

The answers. And the questions underneath.

Open what you need. The wondering is optional. Your browser does not report your choices.

What the fuck is analysis?

Thinking. With consequences.

What does this teaching do for you? How does it connect to the world around you? What broader patterns does it help you notice?

Move between your experience, your relationships and the social structures shaping them. Question the connection. Follow what gets complicated. That’s the sociological imagination. It’s a fucking sociology class.

“The story says this” repeats the story. “This made me notice how I police myself—and where I learned to do that” begins analysing. The thinking can happen inside your comic, voice note, story or other form.

A rabbit turd with a bibliography remains a rabbit turd.

Follow the wondering

What did you notice after the teaching that you weren’t noticing before? Where else does that pattern show up?

You do not need a tidy conclusion. Follow a real connection far enough that we can see your thinking move.

What if I’m shit at art?

The horse can look like a potato.

Creativity means creative thought and expressive choice. It does not mean professional drawing, expensive equipment or a secret audition for the art department.

Try a connection you haven’t made before. Change perspective. Put an expectation into a ridiculous situation so we can see what it does. Take a leap with your thinking and choose a form that helps carry it.

Writing can be creative. A rough voice note can be creative. Analysis and creativity can happen in the same move.

Your ability to give a drawn hand five fingers is not being assessed. What is that hand DOING?

Follow the wondering

Whose definition of “creative” just told you that you aren’t? What becomes possible if it doesn’t get to mark this?

Try a small leap. You do not owe us a spectacular transformation or an award-winning origin story.

Back to the pile ↑
What actually gets me marks?

The rubric. Without the imaginary extra bits.

5 marks for creative force
Intentional choices. Thought that tries something. Expression that carries what you mean.

5 marks for deep analysis
Using the teachings to examine the world. Connections, questions, complications.

These are the two parts of each reflection. Production polish is not a third category. Neither is sounding like a journal article that swallowed a thesaurus.

Repeating class content does not show us what you’ve done with it. Show your thinking at work.

Follow the wondering

Are you asking what you can notice—or trying to calculate the safest performance of noticing?

The criteria are here so you can use them. You do not have to pretend marks are irrelevant to you.

Back to the pile ↑
How many words? How long a video?

The measuring tape has been relieved of command.

There is no universal word count or video runtime hiding here. Give the thinking enough room to develop; stop when more material would just repeat it.

The syllabus compares the time and effort to a 4–6-page essay. That comparison is subjective. It is not a page requirement and absolutely not an invitation to write the essay.

Six pages of “I have met the minimum” is a very long way to say nothing happened.

Follow the wondering

What would you work on next if a word counter couldn’t tell you whether you were finished?

A short piece still needs developed thought. Length cannot do the thinking on its behalf.

Back to the pile ↑
Can I just write an essay?

Your request for a box has been received.

No academic or research essays. The syllabus explicitly says essay-shaped work loses marks. This is a chance to do the thinking another way.

You can use words: a dialogue, journal entry, poem, story, reflective paragraph, or another form that carries your own analysis. “No essays” does not mean words are contraband.

We noticed you requested freedom and immediately ordered walls.

Follow the wondering

What feels safer about an essay? Is that form serving the thought—or protecting you from the possibility of doing something differently?

You can begin with a form you already enjoy. Resisting the box does not require choosing your least accessible medium.

Back to the pile ↑
Do I need outside research or citations?

Put the emergency bibliography down.

This reflection is about what you learned in class. Use the teachings, activities and course materials to develop your own connections. Outside research is not the assignment.

You do not need to collect other people’s arguments to make your thinking count. If you quote or use someone’s work, acknowledge it so we can follow the connection; attribution is not an instruction to manufacture a research paper.

The course readings are optional invitations to follow your interests, not a mountain you must finish climbing before you may have a thought.

Follow the wondering

Are you looking for another source because it opens a question—or because you think your own thinking needs a more important person standing in front of it?

Stay with what the teaching is doing. A famous name cannot have your response for you.

Back to the pile ↑
What am I supposed to reflect on?

Start where something caught.

A story, teaching, class conversation, activity or course-related question that did something to your thinking. What snagged, irritated, surprised or stayed with you?

It can be from earlier in the course. You do not need to cover everything, recap the whole lecture or choose an unrelated topic about Indigenous peoples.

Connect what happened in class to your life, the world around you and broader themes. Use first person. We want your thinking, not a tour of what “one might argue.”

Follow the wondering

Which part are you still thinking about when nobody is asking you to prove that you listened?

That can be an entrance. Then follow the connection beyond naming the topic.

Back to the pile ↑
Does my artwork need an essay beside it?

Your comic does not need a security escort.

The analysis can happen inside the work. Images, sound, dialogue, sequence, juxtaposition and story can make an argument, question a norm or reveal a connection.

A few explanatory lines are fine if they help someone follow your choices. You do not need a compulsory essay explaining every colour and symbol.

The comic has not been arrested. Stop assigning it an academic chaperone.

Follow the wondering

What can your chosen form make visible that an explanation of the form might flatten?

Make the thinking followable. That is different from translating the whole thing back into an essay.

Back to the pile ↑
Why am I freaking out about this?

Who installed the invisible examiner?

Come back to Smart Berries: repeating rabbit turds to prove you’re smart is still repeating rabbit turds. Then return to the Shuteye Dance and normative violence.

What happens when you’ve learned to expect punishment for stepping outside “normal”? An open assignment can start looking like a trap. You may find yourself building the very box this class keeps asking you to resist.

This is a small social environment where resisting that box is welcome. You can examine the pressure itself as part of your reflection.

No, you do not now have to perform the perfect breakthrough about your need to perform perfectly. The rabbit tried adding that requirement. We confiscated its pen.

Follow the wondering

Whose “normal” are you trying to satisfy? Where did you learn that being yourself would cost you something?

You can think about this privately. You do not owe the class a confession, a diagnosis or a story you want to keep.

Back to the pile ↑
Does mine have to look like the example?

An example is not a new species of law.

No. Someone else’s reflection shows one way a person made their thinking visible. It is not a template for your voice, length, medium or life.

Notice what their choices do. Then make choices that serve your own thinking.

We showed you an open door. Please stop measuring yourself against the doorframe.

Follow the wondering

Did seeing an example give you a possibility—or did you immediately turn it into another standard you could fail?

Keep the possibility. You do not need to reproduce the person.

Back to the pile ↑
Where do I put the damn thing?

One answer. No existential ambush.

Open the relevant reflection assignment in Google Classroom, attach your work and click Turn in. Emailing it does not replace turning it in there.

For a physical piece, photos or a recording can show it. Add context if it helps someone follow your thinking. If your format or access creates a problem, tell Maya through the assignment’s private comment.

The upload button does not need to become a spiritual trial.

Follow the wondering

Is there a real access problem here?

Tell Maya what isn’t working. You do not need to solve a platform failure through personal growth.

Back to the pile ↑
Do I need permission for an extension?

A date. Not a defence lawyer.

Where the fuck does the date go?

A redrawn desktop walkthrough. These are illustrations, not live Classroom controls. Labels and placement may look different on your phone. Reflection 1 is the example; open the assignment you actually need.

  1. Go to Classwork.
    StreamClassworkPeople

↑ This tab. The rabbit has found the door.

  2. Find the reflection.

    03 — FOUR REFLECTIONS

    ▤ Reflection 4
    ▤ Reflection 3
    ▤ Reflection 2
    ▤ Reflection 1

Choose the specific reflection you need more time for. No need to send your date on a campus tour.

  3. Open it. Then choose View instructions.
    ▤ Reflection 1

    The assignment instructions appear here.

You need to be inside the assignment.

  4. Find Private comments under Your work.

    Private comments

    Add private comment…

On the desktop view shown here, it’s on the right, beneath Your work. Look for the word private. Tiny word. Significant fucking distinction.

  5. Type the actual date. Hit the send arrow.
    Private comments
I’ll turn this in by October 2.➤

↑ Month + day. Then send. Typing it is not sending it.

Private comments are visible to you and your teachers.

No permission request. No reasons. No waiting for approval. If you need to change the date, come back to this same private-comment area before it passes and send your new calendar date.

“I’m changing my completion date to October 6.”
Repeat as needed. Keep the commitment current.

You are responsible for taking an extension when you need one. You do not ask permission. No reasons, excuses or supporting evidence. Maya needs your date, not a defence of your right to need time.

  1. Open the specific assignment in Google Classroom. Find its private comment area. Put your message there, attached to the assignment you need more time for.
  2. State the actual calendar date you will have it done: month and day. Write “October 2,” not “Friday,” “next week” or “soon.”

For example: “I’ll turn this in by October 2.”

That is the whole message. No “Would it be okay if…” You do not need to wait for Maya to reply or approve it.

  3. Take responsibility for that date. Work toward it and turn your assignment in by the date you gave.
  4. Need more time? Update the date before it passes.

Return to the same assignment’s private comments and say: “I’m changing my completion date to October 6.”

Again: no permission request, no explanation, no waiting for a reply.

  5. Repeat when needed. If your new date needs changing, post another date before that one passes. You can do this more than once. Keep the date current until you turn the work in.

When do late penalties apply? When the date you committed to passes and you have neither turned in the work nor updated that date. Needing an extension is not the thing being penalized. Leaving the commitment without a submission or an update is.

The rabbit has prepared a twelve-page Application to Deserve More Time. Please feed it directly into the shredder. Send the date.

Follow the wondering

What changes when you communicate a commitment instead of building a case for deserving more time?

Responsibility is keeping the relation informed. You do not need to supply personal evidence of suffering.

Back to the pile ↑
Do I have to share something deeply personal?

Your private life is not the entry fee.

No. Personal analysis means your thinking is present. It does not require disclosing trauma or sharing material you want to keep private.

If the work contains something you don’t want to submit in full, contact Maya privately about another way to show the thinking—such as selected documentation or a summary. The arrangement depends on the work.

Depth is not measured in how much of yourself you leave on the institutional photocopier.

Follow the wondering

Can you show the connection without surrendering the private thing that helped you notice it?

You get to have boundaries. We can work on how to make the analysis visible within them.

Back to the pile ↑
I joined late. Where do I start?

You can enter from here.

Visit the course site and work through the interactive activities for the weeks you missed. The Long Remembering gives you routes back through the historical story.

Use those materials honestly. You can connect them to your experience without pretending you heard a teaching you missed. Bring remaining questions to Maya.

This is a catch-up route, not a cancellation of the syllabus attendance requirements.

Follow the wondering

What catches your attention now that you have somewhere to begin?

You do not need to know everything before making one connection.

Back to the pile ↑
What about stickers and Home Council?

The rabbit does not assign your room.

Field Stickers help name ways people contribute. Participation includes more than collecting them: questions, listening, connections, helping others and accessible ways of joining the work.

Use the current Home Council instructions in Classroom. If the sign-up is full, you can’t get into your room, or you’re unsure what to submit, tell Maya. A full sheet is a coordination problem, not proof that you failed at belonging.

Sticker collection and submission arrangements follow the current class directions; this rabbit is not authorized to invent an extra deadline.

Follow the wondering

What did you help make possible for somebody else in the room?

A sticker can name that contribution. It does not create the contribution after the fact.

Back to the pile ↑
Can my reflection grow into my community project?

An idea is allowed to keep living.

Yes, a reflection idea can develop into a more substantial, interactive, community-facing project. Develop what it makes possible with others; don’t just submit the same piece twice.

Bring your proposed direction to Maya. An accessible learning platform is one example she has welcomed, not a compulsory model or automatic approval of every platform.

Your idea does not have to fake its own death between assignments.

Follow the wondering

Who could be in relation with this idea, and what could you make possible together?

Let the people and the purpose shape the project. A larger file is not automatically a deeper relation.

Back to the pile ↑
What counts in Hard Mode?

The game is not a tunnel under the coursework.

Follow the Oddworld Hard Mode schedule in the syllabus. Document progress and your thinking at particular moments: reactions, connections, questions and your point of view. Gameplay recordings, screenshots, rough notes and voice memos can help carry that work.

Keep the sustained analysis. You still attend and participate. New ’n’ Tasty is an approved alternative to Abe’s Oddysee.

“I played a game” and “I analysed what happened while playing” are having different semesters.

Follow the wondering

What did the game make you do, accept or resist? How does that connect to the course?

Keep the rough noticing as it happens. You can develop it without making it sound like a corporate incident report.

Back to the pile ↑

You don’t have to perform freedom correctly.

This class makes room to resist the box. You can take a small leap, keep a boundary, change your mind, or leave a question unfinished.
